The Backstory
We find our hero without conflict save with himself. He, along with a substantial portion of the population, has downloaded his consciousness into a network of computers that serve as a simulated reality. Without a body, he's stuck with only his mind, a fate worse than a thousand hells.* His name is Duke and he is awful and this is the documentation of the shenanigans that befall him inside what has become popularly known in his world as "The Singularity".
*(Did you know that self-loathing only increases with each successive removal from corporeality? It does. Want to find the most miserable son of a bitch in the universe? Find the one who's utterly transcended the need for a body and you've got the absolute worst kind of existence. That's why you never see hyper-intelligent beings whipping around the cosmos. They stay in their rooms and write terrible emo poetry about how shitty they are, painting their eyes with black mascara. That's when they're not cutting themselves, "just so they can still feel something." )
